You and me. And I am glad for that. I'm grateful I have no desire to drink today. I do have a piping hot cup of French roast coffee from Trader Joe's mixed with some Don Francisco's hazelnut. I have to say it every time. It is delicious. I thought today I would go over some more big book quizzes that I made. And let's get started. Are you ready to do this? Are you ready to take the big book quiz? Are you ready to do this? Alright, let's do this. Don't be scared. Don't be frightened. Okay. Are you ready? It's gonna be kind of a long quiz. So it's an open book. You can also use the 12-step companion that app that I have. I love that app. If you want to, you can search terms in there. There's a search tool for the big book. Okay, question number one. There are types of alcoholics who are blank. This is a direct quote. Never going to feel okay in their own skin, entirely normal in every respect, except in the effect alcohol has upon them, unable to feel like they fit in, or egomaniacs with inferiority complex. Which one is the quote? The answer is B. There are types of alcoholics who are entirely normal in every respect, except in the effect alcohol has upon them. Goes on to say they're often able, intelligent, friendly people. So according to Dr. Silkworth, who wrote that on page Roman numero thirty in the big book, if I'm not entirely normal in every respect, don't blame poor old alcoholism, because that's not it. Here's another direct quote, number two. We find it a waste of time to blink. Spend too many hours in slippery places, keep chasing a man who cannot or will not work with you. Work with more than one alcoholic at a time. The answer is B. We find it a waste of time to keep chasing a man who cannot or will not work with you. The big book says if you're in fit spiritual condition, you can be in slippery places all the time. Number three, the third step prayer is something we have to memorize. Something we must say with someone else present, does not end with an amen or all of the above. Third step prayer, something we have to memorize, something we must say with someone else present, does not end with an amen or all of the above. The answer is C. Third step prayer does not end with an amen. The big book says the wording is optional, as long as you express the idea so you don't have to memorize it. With one who might misunderstand. If your plan to stay sober is to simply avoid temptation, A, it will usually work for a while, B, it will usually end in a relapse, C, A and B, or D, the book does not address this. The answer is C. If your plan to stay sober is simply to avoid temptation, it'll sometimes work for a while, but it will usually end in a relapse. Which of the steps first introduces specific tools just to start using right away? Step one, step two, step four, or step nine. Which of the steps introduce specific tools to start using right away? The answer is C. Step four. Step four gives us very specific tools to start using immediately. Specific ways to start Turning our will in life over, really. Quote As God's people, we blank will usually want to assist others, stand on our feet, we don't crawl before anyone. All have a deep desire to grow and do better. The answer is B. As God's people, we stand on our feet, we don't crawl before anyone. That's when they're going through step nine, they're saying don't be slave-like, servile or scraping. When you're making your amends. What can I do? What can I do? I'll do anything. Don't know what to do. Logic is great stuff, and we still like it. Something we do not possess in early recovery. Not mentioned in the big book, or something we leave to others. Logic is great stuff and we still like it. Logic is something we do not possess in early recovery. Logic is not mentioned in the big book, or logic is something we leave to others. The answer is A. Logic is great stuff. We liked it and we still like it. Asks us to start using our brain right away. Some confusion, I think, comes in when it talks about self-knowledge not helping us, but that's very specific to just self-knowledge concerning our alcoholism. Being unable to prevent us from picking up the first drink. In that regard, we've been strangely insane, it says. Other than that, it asks us to use tact, common sense, analyze things, etc. Eight, by the time we are at step ten, we should feel safe and protected from the first drink. We will have learned how to fight temptation. Drinking will never cross our mind, or none of the above. The answer is A. By the time we're at step ten, we should feel safe and protected from the first drink. Since we were not fighting temptation by then. And it does say that drinking may occasionally, seldom. Almost never, but doesn't say it will never, ever cross our mind. Next, number nine, the cornerstone holds the whole structure together. The cornerstone is the very s first stone laid in the construction. Cornerstone is step two. Cornerstone is B and C or none of the above. The answer is the cornerstone is B and C. It's the very first stone laid in the construction of the spiritual arch we're building. And it is step two. If you look up cornerstone, it's this first stone laid in construction. It's important because everything is built relative to it. Our sex powers are part of our disease, are good, are not discussed in the book, or are defects? What are our sex powers? Are sex powers part of our disease? Are they good? Are they not discussed in the book? Are they defects? According to the big book, our sex powers are God given and good. Not to be used selfishly or lightly. Well, we're gonna have dry spells. It says fears are gonna crop up for the rest of our life. It says resentments are gonna crop up for the rest of our life, but it says for the program to work, we can have no reservations of any kind. Blink is called the foundation stone. Admitting we're alcoholic, surrendering, helping others, or step one. Helping others is the foundation stone. Alcoholism is a blank malady, twofold, spiritual or threefold. This is where confusion abounds within the fellowship. But the big book is very clear. Alcoholism is a two-fold malady. I have a little summary, a visual summary of the first 164 pages. If you want me to email it to you, write to me. It lays all this out. We have the insanity of the first drink and the allergy that is permanent and progressive. And then we also have a spiritual malady, but that is not alcoholism. That is relevant because it is the gateway to our salvation, our freedom from alcohol. Me feeling like I don't fit in is my untreated alcoholism, is why alcoholics drink is not part of my alcoholic problem, or something I'm asked to write about. The answer is C. It is not part of my alcoholic problem, not according to the big book. And finally, our real purpose is to remain sober, fit ourselves be a maximum service to God and the people around us, that ourselves be a maximum service to God and other alcoholics, or the big book never says what our real purpose is. What do you think? The answer is B. Our real purpose is to fit ourselves to be a maximum service to God and the people about us. Everybody. How did you do? Sometimes I just want to sit here and talk about music. I just want to talk about music with you. Always thinking about music.

SPEAKER_00

I'm always hearing it. I love music.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna go put on some music and model in front of the mirror. And look at myself. I think I'll start with a swimming song by Loudon Wingwright III. That is a real doozy of a song. Then I will put on The Wall of Death by Richard Thompson. It's another doozy. Then I'll put on Percy Song by Fairport Convention. Then I will just put on a pot of coffee and listen to Pete Floyd metal. The whole time.
